Gate B14 Has No Outlets

A delayed flight, a dying phone, and a bag that was suddenly worth every inch of room.

The board said DELAYED, then DELAYED AGAIN, then a polite little cloud of nothing. Gate B14 had forty people, two outlets, and one of those outlets had a man sitting on it who looked like he planned to retire there.

Jonah did not care. Jonah unzipped the front pocket of his bag and pulled out the Anker 25,000mAh 165W power bank, the one he had bought after the last time. A single cable later, his phone was climbing back up from four percent, and his laptop, the one with the actual work on it, was quietly joining in. People around him did that thing where they pretend not to stare at a stranger's charger.

The gate got louder. A toddler negotiated with a pretzel. Jonah put on his Soundcore Q20i noise cancelling headphones, pressed the button, and the whole terminal shrank to a polite hum. He answered four emails and half a crossword before the gate agent said the word "boarding" like it was a surprise to her too.

He walked down the jet bridge at 62 percent battery and a very good mood.

Back in the real world: the Anker is a 25,000mAh portable charger rated up to 165W, and the Soundcore Q20i is a pair of over-ear Bluetooth headphones with active noise cancelling. For flying, confirm your airline's power bank rules and check each page for the exact specs.
