The Sunday Shelf

Three minutes, two bottles, and Lena's one rule about mornings.

Lena's one rule about mornings is that they should not require a decision before coffee. So on Sunday nights she sets up what she calls the shelf: the same two things, in the same order, left where her hand will find them.

First, a few drops of the Paula's Choice BOOST C15 vitamin C booster. Then the Estee Lauder DayWear 24H moisture cream. That's it. No ten-step spiral, no mirror full of tabs. Her roommate calls it "the least dramatic skincare in the building," which Lena takes as the compliment it is.

She likes the way the shelf looks: two clean bottles, a small tray, a plant that has survived her. She likes even more that it takes three minutes. By Wednesday the routine is something her hands do while her brain is still asleep, and the morning feels, in a small way, like it was already handled by someone organized. Sunday Lena, mostly.

Back in the real world: a moisturizer and a vitamin C booster. Everyone's skin is different, and ingredients can sting or interact, so read the label and patch test, and ask a dermatologist if you are unsure. I have not tested these on you.

Make Sunday count: planners for the week ahead.
